Built by Slovak and eastern European settlers to the area in the mid-to-late 1800s, the Immaculate Conception Shrine in the village of Bitumen is a lasting monument to the village of over 1,000 who used to thrive here. Today, the interior of the church is open once a year for a Reunion Mass for descendants of those who grew up here. The cemetery is reminiscent of what ca be found in eastern Europe today.
Open one day a year around July 4th for a Bitumen Reunion. Mass is usually presided over by the priest from Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
